5 Exercises that Focus on your Core

Your core, or abdominal muscles, play a role in every movement you make on a daily basis for the most part. Standing up, running, swimming, or walking, your core is what helps keep you balanced. Your core is also where you see a lot of fat cells gather. Doing core exercises not only allows you to gradually burn away those fat cells, but also strengthen those muscles. Many trainers recommend working on your core muscles when working out. Trainers at Red Mountain Weight Loss are no different. Having a flat stomach is something that many people trying to lose weight desire. Below are five exercises that can help strengthen your core.

Exercises

Plank - Place your elbows on the floor underneath your shoulders and have your feet in the push up position. Hold yourself up for thirty seconds at a time concentrating on your core. This exercise engages your entire core.

Side Planks - This exercise targets your oblique’s, or side abdominal muscles. Balance on one elbow and one foot and keep your body off the ground. Hold for a count of thirty and relax.

Mountain Climbers - Get into the push up position with your arms extended. Bring one leg to your chest and then back out. Repeat with the other leg. Do this at a high speed for one minute sessions for both core strengthening and cardio.

Sit Ups - Keep your feet flat on the floor with your arms crossed on your chest. Without lifting your feel bring your chest to your bent knees. Lay back on the ground until your shoulders touch the ground. That is one sit up. Repeat in sets of fifteen or so.

Leg Lifts
- Lay flat on the ground with your arms underneath your butt. Lift your legs up in the air until they are perpendicular to the floor. Lower your legs back down until they almost touch the floor, but do not let them touch. That is one leg lift. Repeat in sets of fifteen.

The above exercises can have a serious effect on your core muscles. A trainer or exercise specialist may have better exercises depending on your needs. For more information contact Red Mountain Velashape Phoenix to schedule an appointment.
